Beauty and the Beast

Beauty...
I love being a city girl. Last week, we got back into our city groove--and hit the town. We got the coolest invitation in the mail to attend a launch party for DC's newest magazine-Style-at this hot little new restaurant in Chinatown called Oya.

Last Thursday, after a full day at the office, we sprinted home, threw on our hippest/chiquest attire (is there such a thing in winter???), and headed out. While we are not typically the showy type, it was fun to go all out for one night and, as Adam Ant so eloquently puts it "put on a little makeup, makeup"...

As we walked into the door, it was definitely THE place to be for the night. All of DC's socialites were out to see and be seen. Although, it seemed noone knew why they were there, or how they made the list, but after getting the sheet-metal type invitation, they knew they couldn't miss it.

The restaurant is super funky--great decor--a window peering into the kitchen with water running over it, sleek lines, great lighting, and the most wonderful fireplace carved into the wall in a rectangle shape with white rocks lining the inside. My description doesn't do it justice, just trust that it was super cool. The biggest trend of the night--furs. Fur stoles, fur jackets, fur collars. I whispered over to Al, "Who would you vote best dressed of the night?" Too tough to decide.

After getting tipsy from a mini bottle of Moet, and a shot of mango infused rum, we left our fancy, shmancy party and headed to somewhere a little more our speed for something to eat-Fudruckers.

To Beast....

This weekend Al's friend Amanda had a pajama 30th birthday brunch on Sunday. Her friends, who were throwing the party, live only a few short blocks from us. So, Al and I put on our pjs, and the cake we had made, and walked down the street to the party, muttering to each other "Other people better be wearing their pajamas too."

The party was fun--people brought their dogs so at some point there was like 10 dogs running around barking, jumping, begging. While I want a dog, it definitely convinced me that 1 is more than enough!

Overall, I think I preferred the beauty part of the week over the beast portion--but one things for sure, I love DC in the spring time.
