Domo Arigato, Mr. Roboto

Happy New Years! I guess since we recently rung in the New Years, I can still blog about what we did, right?

Starting on Friday night (Dec 30), we were invited to our friend Christina's for a wine tasting party. This is the 2nd one she has had, and I've grown quite fond of them--we pick a theme for the night (i.e. Syrah's, Zinfandels, etc), and everyone brings a bottle that fits within the theme. This time, we did Zin's. And, basically, the tasting consists of drinking lots of different wines, and then writing up your review of the wine. At the beginning of the night, everyone is a wine show-off--"hint of cherry" or "bouquet of plum", and then later in the night we show our true level of drunkeness by descriptions like "I taste bologna" or "this taste like monkey's ass".

On Saturday, Al and I recouperated, and then, that night we first headed to Matt and Katie's house. Since M&K are new parents, they were kind enough to host and have everyone to their place. We all brought a mish-mash of food and wine. So, we had another wine tasting--but not as organized as the one the night before. This was more of a "bring a wine, and we'll all try each of them and score them and get drunk". Started with white wine, then to sherry, then to champagne, back to whites....and that was just the start of the night.

My friend Shannon and her boyfriend Rich were in town from Memphis, so we left the potluck (not before enjoying the chocolate fondue), and met up with Shannon, Rich, Shan's friend Colleen, and 2 other friends of ours from high school-Beth and Michelle. We were at Rosa Mexicano--where I had champagne (again), pomegranite margaritas, and Al was downing tequila shots. Mmmm, tequila. Needless to say, the next morning was rough--and we had offered to host brunch. I wasn't as bad off as Al was, but it was a long morning--especially since we had to get up relatively early to cook, only to have the guest of honors be an hour late (sorry Shan, you get crap for being late to your own brunch!!!)

So, that was New Years. And, to make things really zany, Al and I finally decided on our trip for the spring. We were originally looking into Belize, or somewhere Central America and beachy, but somehow started talking about Asia, and found out we could get there for the same amount as Central America/Mexico. So, we bought the tix on Friday, and we are headed to Japan!!! In celebration, we went for sushi, and got Lost in Translation this past weekend (which is HILARIOUS, and probably will be even more so after the trip).

I can't really focus on anything else going on, since that is pretty huge, but I cannot wait to go, it's going to be insane. And, even better, can't wait to blog and journal about it. Domo Arigato.....
